About the artist
My name is Sílvio Brito da Fonseca , I was born in Mozambique in 1978 and have lived in Portugal since I was two years old. From a very young age, drawing became my way of observing and interpreting the world. I work mainly with black and white graphite and dry pastel, exploring realism as a means of capturing expression, detail and intensity, with a special focus on portraiture. Each work is born from the search for balance between technique and emotion, where the gaze, light and gesture take on a central role.
My training began at the António Arroio School in Lisbon, after which I followed a mostly self-taught path, developing my own unique style over the years. In 2005 I opened my first studio in Lisbon's Bairro Alto district, later expanding my work to France, in the Burgundy region, where I created a realistic drawing studio and led workshops. In 2025 I returned to Portugal, and I am currently working at the Fábrica Moderna Atelier in Marvila.
